Green Madison helps city homeowners save energy and money!

Don’t let looks fool you. From the outside it looks like your typical home, but step inside this 105 year old duplex and you will find energy efficient improvements throughout! David Bell and Renee Callaway worked with Green Madison to assess their home, make the energy efficient updates and verify the work was done correctly.

Improvements made:
  • Attic treatments:
  • Air Sealing the entire exterior edges of the attic
  • Insulate (to R-50) attic access hatch, dense pack insulation of the slopes (255 sf) with cellulose and insulate flat attic to R-50  (692 sf) from average R-38
  • Insulation of abandoned masonry chimney to R-19
  • Sidewall insulation with removal and reinstallation of asphalt shingle siding
  • Sill box/rim joist insulation in basement
  • Insulate Flat/low slope roof of the rear room of first floor
  • Insulate Rear dining/entrance floor insulation from crawlspace below
  • Dense pack porch ceiling above front bow window and dense pack floor triangles above side bow window
Not only do these improvements greatly improve the comfort and durability of the home, David and Renee are enjoying approximately 30% in energy savings. They were also eligible to take advantage of incentives offered through Green Madison.
